Recital Program (Part 2)

11. Swan Lake (by Alice Zhang)

Alice Zhang will be performing a well-known ballet theme song “Swan Lake” composed by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. Some of you might have seen the Swan Lake ballet or movie. For those who don’t know, Swan Lake is a romantic ballet in four acts. It is about a prince who falls in love with the princess. But she was turned into a swan by a curse. However, there are many different endings of Swan Lake. Alice will show you her favourite ending.

12. Swans On The Lake (by Nate Faiman)

Nate Faiman will be playing “Swans On The Lake” which is an uplifting modern song composed by John Thompson. Many students of mine started with John Thompson’s book (Some students call it ‘The Monster Book’). His piano pedagogy provides a clear and complete foundation that enables students to learn music in a fun way. Nate will show you how much fun the swans are swimming on the lake.

13. Beauty And The Beast (by Jett Faiman)

Jett Faiman is a fan of movie theme songs, from epic space movies like Star Wars to fantasy movies like Twilight. Today, he will be performing one of the greatest animated movie soundtrack of all time - "Beauty and the Beast". It won many awards including Golden Globe and Grammys.

14. A Whole New World (by Claire Yeuong)

My new student Claire Yeuong will be performing another award-winning song, “A Whole New World”. Some of you have listened to the song since last year’s Aladdin broadway musical in Melbourne or since 1992 from Disney’s Aladdin movie. Let Claire take you on a magic carpet ride to a whole new world.

15. Fröhlicher Landmann (by Chloe Cheong)

Chloe Cheong will be performing one of her ABRSM exam pieces “Fröhlicher Landmann” which translates as the “The Happy Farmer”. While Chloe was practising this song in my studio, more than once, she attracted birds who flew to the window and started to sing as she played. So I hope you enjoy the song as much as those lovely birds did.

16. ‘New World’ Symphony (by Elena Kyriaki & Kostas Karvounis)

We have a duet by my new student Elena Kyriaki & her partner Kostas Karvounis. Elena on piano, and Kostas on guitar. Together, they will be performing ‘New World Symphony’ which is one of the most popular symphonies of all time and was played during the Apollo 11 first Moon landing mission. Elena’s mum is in Greece now and I hope she will enjoy this video recording as much as we will here.

17. My Heart Will Go On (by Saya Leung)

Saya Leung is an up-and-coming chef at The Atlantic in Crown Casino. When he’s not cooking up a storm, he has a strong passion for learning musical instruments - in fact he already picked up guitar back in Hong Kong. Now he’s here today to perform piano, which he started learning just last year.

18. Colors Of The Wind (by Laura Ihatsu)

Another new student of mine, Laura Ihatsu is going to perform “Colors Of The Wind”. She has a musical family and has been playing violin for many years. This time, she decided to learn and perform piano to surprise her mother in Finland.

19. Harry Potter (by Kaeden Ooi)

As a big fan of the Harry Potter, Kaeden Ooi will be excited to perform this movie theme song. John Williams is not just famous for composing the theme of “Harry Potter”, but also those iconic movie scores including the themes to Star Wars, Superman and Jurassic Park.

20. Für Elise (by Kieran Ooi)

We have Kieran Ooi again. This time, he will perform ‘Fur Elise’ on piano. It is one of Ludwig van Beethoven's most beloved compositions, is often a favorite of many piano students of mine. Beethoven wrote this piece dedicated to someone that he adored. Today, Kieran dedicates this song to all those who adore Beethoven like he does.

21. Ballade Pour Adeline (by Kerry Wang)

Kerry Wang completed the AMEB grade 8 piano exam last year. Today, she would like to perform one of her all time favourite pieces “Ballade Pour Adeline” to inspire the audience here. It’s a 20th century song firstly recorded by Richard Clayderman. It remains Clayderman's signature hit world-wide.

22. You Raise Me Up (by John Ho & Grace Newste)

To finish up our mother’s day recital, a duet of another Secret Garden song - “You Raise Me Up” will be performed by my new vocal student John Ho and I. John always had a desire to learn singing. Recently he started to join local Chinese choir groups to pursue his passion. Today, he dedicates this song to his family and people who pursue their dreams no matter age or background.
